finishing a 4 mile race without any stops race when, twenty-five days ago, you could not run more than a half-mile before you needed to walk.

finishing that race 6 minutes faster than you thought you would!

having your sister and a friend cheering for you at the end.
your other sister talking you out of a teary melt-down in the airport tim horton’s on a rainy gray morning.
your best friend listening to you babble on about nothing for two hours over the telephone.
emails from people looking as hard as you do to find your place in the world, those who understand you without even having to know you.
the smell of damp soil, in the morning, mixed with leaves and grass, in search of the nearest cup of coffee.
a cup of coffee.
